A first introduction to bouldering outdoors, giving you the chance to try some of the best bouldering in North East England. No prior experience is required, and the main aim of the session is about having as much fun as possible. You will be provided with climbing shoes, chalk and a bouldering pad, so just let Climb GB take you on a bouldering circuit tailored to your ability whilst giving you some top tips along the way. This is a 2-hour beginner session at Shaftoe boulders in Northumberland.

Learn all the essential skills so that you can boulder safely and confidently outdoors. This session provides a taster of outdoor bouldering, at Shaftoe boulders in Northumberland, for those who have already been bouldering indoors and provides a comprehensive overview of all aspects and fun of bouldering outdoors. You’ll learn how to spot correctly, how to use great footwork to transfer your bodyweight and how to use a variety of different climbing holds.

Coaching movement and progressing your bouldering skills, this session is suitable for existing indoor and outdoor boulderers looking to improve (although previous outdoor bouldering experience isn’t essential). Climb GB will assess your current bouldering ability (in a friendly way), identify weaknesses, how to train and provide coaching on a range of boulder problems with the emphasis on helping you improve and enjoy your bouldering as much as possible.

If you feel like you’ve plateaued, want to really work on something or would simply benefit from the longest outdoor bouldering session Climb GB has to offer, then this is the one for you. A 5-hour session at Shaftoe boulders in Northumberland gives a comprehensive coaching and thoroughly challenging session. This is suitable for experienced existing indoor and outdoor boulderers operating between font 5A and 6C (ideal if you’re looking to break in to the 7A grade).

The map below shows the location of Shaftoe boulders in Northumberland (Orange marker), the venue Climb GB uses for the outdoor bouldering sessions. For these courses we will meet at Belsay village (blue marker), this is easy to find and only a short distance from Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England. Alternatively, free pick up and drop off is available from Hexham train station to help reduce the environmental impact of travel.
